Shobha Manaktala is a New York State Licensed and Nationally Board Certified acupuncturist.  She completed her undergraduate work at Columbia University and holds Master's degrees in both Science and Public Health.  Ms. Manaktala graduated from the Tri-State College of Acupuncture in New York City in 1999 and has worked extensively in pain management clinics, medical day treatment programs and nursing homes. More recently she has received training and certification in "Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation"  with Virginia Doran,  "Aromatherapy: Survival and Serenity,"  with the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy, "Current Concepts in Complementary and Alternative Medicine" with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and "Acupuncture for the Cancer Patient" with Memorial Sloan Kettering's Integrative Medicine Center.   She currently works as a consultant acupuncturist for St. Mary's Episcopal Center ADHC and Nursing Home and Pratt Area Community Council's Gibb Mansion.

Shobha's first experience with acupuncture was at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx where she was trained in ear "detox" acupuncture, a five point treatment used for drug and alcohol addiction.  A key point in this treatment and one of the first points she learned is the "Shen Men" point in the ear.  Shen Men roughly translates to "Spirit Gate" or "Heavenly Gate" and is an extremely powerful point.  It is thought to connect one with a greater, celestial energy as well as  calm the mind and facilitate a state of harmony and serenity.  Shen Men is considered a "master point" which alleviates stress, pain, tension, anxiety, depression, insomnia, restlessness and excessive sensitivity.

Acupuncture can gently address your pain issues, including back, neck and knee pain as well as headaches and nerve pain. Magnets and acupressure beads can be used for "take home" therapy.

Acupuncture can help balance your metabolism and regulate your appetite as well as reduce cravings for sweets and junk food. Shobha can also work closely with you on a healthy whole foods diet and an exercise routine.

Treatments can be used  to regulate  the menstrual cycle, boost fertility, manage menopausal  symptoms, increase libido, address BPH and male pattern baldness.

Shobha is a nationally certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist and can work with you on quitting smoking.  Ear "detox" treatments can help address a range of addictions.
